Why do engines consume lubricant? Can it be avoided?
Engines need to consume a little oil to operate. To lubricate the different parts of the engine (cylinders, pistons, etc.), the lubricant creates a film of oil on the wall of these components. During combustion, this film burns and mixes in with the gases from the fuel.
The consumption of oil is determined by the engine power and the type of driving. If you find that the vehicle is consuming more oil than previously under the same usage conditions, you should check it. High oil consumption leads to atmospheric pollution and can affect the post-processing devices, such as particle filters and catalytic converters.
